Paint Party Friday!

This is my great nephew, Hayden, done in watercolor on a half sheet of cold press. I’ll crop it some when I have it framed but I haven’t decided just how much. I’m late getting this up for Paint Party Friday, but it is still Friday if only just. Now I get to go blog hopping and see everyone else’s paintings!

Better Luck Next Time

When I saw this week’s challenge theme of Fish over at Three Muses, I knew I wanted to make a page in my collage journal. I remembered saving this big fish image from a magazine way back. I glued in a friend to help him out and painted in a few details like the bobber and hook and bubbles. Then I looked through my box of words clipped from magazines to see if anything suited, but without really expecting to find anything. Better Luck Next Time just jumped out at me. Love me some fun fishy art!

Book of Faces

I bought a Strathmore Visual Journal this weekend. I’m going to use it for painting faces. Probably the whimsical and mixed media ones but not the more realistic ones. I have another sketchbook I do those in, or I do them on watercolor paper. This new journal is 9″x12″ and has heavy paper with a nice texture. I really like it. I did a page on it Saturday night and it held up well to multiple layers of gesso, watercolor crayon, acrylic paint and collage.

Hello world!

I  decided to let my old blog expire, but then I missed it. I thought I’d just use Flickr to post my images and stuff, but I didn’t like that at all. I guess it’s time to start a new blog. Why is it called Toad in a Boat? Because I already owned the domain name. 🙂 So I spent the evening drawing a toad in a boat for the header image and editing the blog theme to suit me. It may still undergo some changes while I decide if I like it or not.

These little ladies are not new, but I need an image to test. Hmm, I think I’ll add some ribbon or tassels to these and make bookmarks. I’ve got a few more of them around here, somewhere.
