At least, I’m happy, because I finally have a painting to show! Just a quickie giraffe in pastel. I couldn’t resist his funny face. I was happy with it until I sprayed it to keep it from smearing. I obviously didn’t use the same product I used to use on pastels because this one ruined it. It made all the colors go gray like a gray mist was sprayed on it. And that was one very light coat! I added some more dark, over the top of it, to the eyes because it was the worst there. I really need to go over the whole thing with more pastel to bring the color back up, but I probably won’t since he wasn’t for framing. I’ll let him sit around a few days and see if I feel inclined to work on it some more. Oh, the product I used was Krylon UV Protectant varnish, matte, from the fine art section. And it was pricey! If you have some and haven’t used it, don’t until you try it on something that isn’t important! I’m very happy to be back at Paint Party Friday this week!
love it…it brings a smile to my face…curious girraffe…love it…xxx
Am so sorry you are not happy with the results as I love your giraffe with its beautiful muted colours. Happy PPF, Annette x
Beautiful and expressive giraffe portrait!

Looks like he is smiling for a camera shot. LOL Really cute.
I like your friendly giraffe, even if he is a little washed out. 🙂
I’ve used other Krylon products (finishing spray for some of my acrylic pieces) and the product in the can has been fine. Now the spray nozzle … well, that’s another story entirely. 🙂
Just a quickie!? Gorgeous!! I love that smile on her spotty face. Happy PPF
Oh isn’t it so discouraging when a product ruins hard work? But though you can probably see a difference, he looks great to me. So delightful with his long lashed and shy grin:-)

What a great face you’ve drawn! It has such personality! Happy PPF!
Friendly giraffe, very well. Saludos
I think it’s great! What a fantastic expression. Can’t imagine it being better than this, but I will take your word for it.
This is so precious ~ lovely ~ and so well done ~ thanks, namaste, ^_^
I hate it when products don’t perform the way they are supposed to, but the results with this are pretty special never he less… the eyes are just beautifully rendered…xx
That is adorable! I’ve never used pastels, well..once I did, it did not turn out well. Yours is Fabulous! Happy PPF!
Wow…totally stunning..this is such an exquisite piece..and his/her beautiful soul truly shines through…magnificent work! I am sorry the spray was not good..I think it looks fabulous.!

Your giraffe portrait is wonderful! i have only used a fixative once as an experiment on a pastel that i didn’t care about. It certainly does darken it. but you say this “grayed’ it. I took a Sally Strand workshop last year. She sprays hers but then always puts more on top as the last coat so you still have the sparkle of the highlights.
I love him and his cute face. As soon as I saw him I began to smile. I am new to pastels and haven’t sprayed anything yet so thank you for the information.
This is such a fun piece of work!! It brought such a smile to my face! Sorry you feel it’s ruined…looks wonderful on this end!! Thanks for the warning about that product too!! I think it would be so fun framed in a powder room!!

Wow! You did that quickly? Looks like you spent hours on it. It’s so lifelike.
Well, quick for me just means I did it in one sitting, LOL. I probably worked on it for an hour with the color after getting the drawing part done.
Sometimes it takes me a couple months to finish a painting, so one sitting is very fast!! lol It is fantastic!!
He looks like he is fake smiling at you, like hey, another picture? I love it, because it has so much personality. And this was a “quickie”? Good grief, that’s even more impressive!
