Week 2 in Diary of Faces looks at Romanian artists. I chose to try Head of a Girl by Nicolae Tonitza. Tonitza was a painter, engraver, lithographer, journalist and art critic. He is famous for his portraits of children and his characteristic “Tonitza eyes.” Although this one looks simpler than the one I chose for week 1, I had a lot more trouble with it. The simplicity is deceptive! Partรย of my trouble was not really having the correct colors and not wanting to buy more, LOL. I only use acrylics in my journals so I don’t have many colors. I’m happy with the way it came out in the end, though. And I really like painting these directly in this old book. Sharing with my friends at Paint Party Friday. It has really grown!

Another wonderful diary entry! Her face is an amazing use of acrylics!
Your face is really lovely and expressive. The colors you used are so nice.
๐ I am doing this class as well, but I have yet to sketch week 2! I have yet to decide which one to do…I have narrowed it down though! ๐
Oh, your post brought back such fond memories of my visit to Romania!
Your portrait is rich and beautiful!
Happy PPF!!

Gorgeous work!! The idea of painting right into the pages of an old book is wonderful. Can’t wait to see more.
Happy PPF

You did a really great job on this! Isn’t it fun to discover amazing artists that you have never heard of before?
This is so beautiful. I’m going to have to go look up the painter and see more of his work, but I can’t imagine she looked any more beautiful when he painted her!
Beautiful portraits! Love the charcoal sketch very much!!
