From this to that

More imaginary creatures this week for Sunday Sketches. I thought it might be fun to show how I find the creatures so this time I’m posting the paint scribbled page, too. Can you see the bird on the right in the scribbles on the left? Or maybe you see something completely different!
Can you find the big green weasel bear and the tiny woodchuck like creature below in the scribbles above? Finding these creatures is so much fun, it is addicting. I’ve also finished some ATCs but I’ll show those in the next day or two. I know you’ve got lots to see today, visiting all the other SS participants!

Junk Mail Book

Sophia is going through a very difficult time right now. She and her father need our prayers. While she is away, Heather at Rose Hill Designs  is hosting Sunday Sketches.

I’m showing off the Junk Mail Book that I made in Carla Sonheim’s Summer Camp. I really loved the puzzle like aspect of this book; how each picture that overlapped a page had to  morph into something else on another page. I hope you have time to click for enlargements to see how it all works together.

See how the mouse on the cover morphs into the winged creature on the next spread? And the head of the creature at the top becomes a sea creature, then a submarine and later a little house.

The horns of the cow become the ears of the own and part of the cows nose becomes a wing tip.

Those fish tails will become lizard feet and one leg of the starfish will become an insect and then a rabbit ear.

The goblins hair came from the cow. The ziggy guy is drawn partially on the clear envelope plastic so he shows on both sides of the page.

One of those trees will become a bird’s beak and the bald guy will become a rabbit!

I really loved working on this and I know I’ll do more this way. The junk mail is covered in gesso and then watercolor and the pictures are drawn in permanent marker. Happy Sunday Sketches!

Sunday Sketches

I’m not going to be home Sunday but I’m going to try to set this post up early and have it automatically post on Sunday. Let’s see if it works! I won’t be able to add it to the Sunday Sketches Mr. Linky until evening, but at least I’ll have posted. I don’t like to miss SS.

These are just a few of the 101 faces I drew this week for Carla Sonheim’s Faces 101! Summer Camp. These were part of Fridays assignmet. Tiny colored pencil sketches from photos, 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ and Stylized drawings with conte’ and charcoal. I found it difficult to work so tiny with the colored pencils and could have gotten a better likeness with a larger size. The stylized ones were quick and fun, though. I never enjoyed summer camp this much as a kid.

One line faces & more

In Carla’s summer camp today we did 10 one line faces from one photo. You have to draw quickly without ever lifting the pen from the paper. We then chose 2 of the 10 to add a little shading to with water, since they were drawn with a water soluble marker. Mine favorite 2 are below. Fun, huh? Then we had to do two 20min portraits with sharpie and water soluble crayon, aiming for more realism. One of them had to be the same one you used for the one liners. I am not used to using markers for faces, and I’m not sure I like the hard lines they give, but it is fun to try something different. This is day 3 and we are up to 55 faces!
